You might have spotted a change to our access performance titles here at the Royal Exchange – we've recently introduced Sensory Adapted (SA) Performances, which are replacing our Relaxed (R) performances.

Even though they have a different name, these performances are still designed to welcome anyone who will benefit from a more relaxed environment and who might be anxious about attending the theatre for a range of reasons. For each Sensory Adapted, small changes are made to the staging, including: 

  • Softening any loud noises, removing any flashing or strobe lights and avoiding sudden or surprising moments. 
  • Low level lighting remaining on throughout the performance. 

We also endeavour to introduce the cast to all the audience before the performance begins, and provide an easy read guide of the show which will be available on our website and in person the day before the performance.  

Everyone is very welcome to attend our Sensory Adapted Performances – they are an inclusive, enjoyable experience for all. 

All tickets for Sensory Adapted performances are Pay What You Can, starting at £15. These are offered alongside Audio Described (AD), BSL-Interpreted (BSL) and Captioned (C) performances for productions within our theatre space.
