Hospitality and Technical Theatre Training: 2 Free courses, for 16-18 year olds in Greater Manchester not currently in full-time employment.

The Royal Exchange Theatre is working in partnership with Jigsaw Support to deliver two FREE courses for 16-24 year olds* living in Greater Manchester who aren’t in education, training or employment.

*People age 19-24 with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan via Tameside Council) are eligible to join the course.
Course 1: Hospitality, Tues 29 Oct – Tues 3 Dec
Course 2: Technical Theatre, Thurs 14th Nov– Thurs 12 Dec

If you cannot make the first week you are welcome to join from week 2!

We want everyone to have the opportunity to get involved, which is why we can offer support with any travel costs or access requirements you’d need in order to take part – just let us know on the form.

Eligibility – to take part in the programme you must:

  • Be aged 16-18
  • Not currently be in Education, Employment or Training
  • Live in Greater Manchester
  • Have been a legal resident in the UK for at least 3 years
  • Have proof of age, address and residency in the UK for a minimum of 3 years
  • Be able to attend all sessions

Course 1: Hospitality

This course will run every Tuesday from 4-6pm for a total of 6 weeks. You must be able to attend every session. 
The venue is 4C Community Centre (Eclectic Cafe), Taunton Road, Ashton Under Lyne, OL6 9DR.

10 NEET young people will develop their teamwork and customer service skills, gain a certificate in Food Hygiene, and gain hands-on experience working in a café.

The course dates are:

  • Tues 29th Oct 4-6pm
  • Tues 5th Nov 4-6pm
  • Tues 12th Nov 4-6pm
  • Tues 19th Nov 4-6pm
  • Tues 26th Nov 4-6pm
  • Tues 3rd Dec 2-6pm – this session will take place at the Royal Exchange Theatre and participants will then have the opportunity to attend a show in the evening. Transport will be provided to & from this session.

 

Course 2: Technical Theatre
This course will run every Thursday from 3-5pm for a total of 5 weeks. You must be able to attend every session.
The venue is The Vale, Unit 2 Vale Mill, Off Micklehurst Road, Mossley, OL5 9JL.

10 NEET young people will learn technical and production skills used in the creative industries, and gain a certificate in First Aid. Course elements will include lighting, sound, stage management and set building as well as practical skills development and shadowing opportunities at RET.

The course dates are:

  • Session 1 – Thursday 14th Nov
  • Session 2 – Thursday 21st Nov
  • Session 3 – Thursday 28th Nov
  • FIRST AID TRAINING AT RET – Thursday 5th Dec  This session will take place at the Royal Exchange Theatre, and participants will then have the opportunity to attend a show in the evening. Transport will be provided to & from this session.
