Welcome to M8 where we are in our fourth year of Local Exchange
Local Exchange Ambassadors have led a legacy programme celebrating and centring local stories and voices. Building on OUR M8, a 2023 project interviewing local people from the area, they’ve created a local writing and performing group. 12 weeks of free writing-workshops and rehearsals culminating in a performance at Cheetham Cultural Festival.
In the summer of 2022 we held a community arts festival at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Cheetham Hill. For two weeks the Den, our unique pop-up theatre, hosted a wide variety of events from family fun-days to community shows, theatre, dance and visual art.
Since 2018 the Royal Exchange has been working in partnership with the Cheetham Hill and Crumpsall communities developing key partnerships, running creative workshops, making beautiful work such as the UP THE HILL audio-plays, and bringing together a 12-strong Local Exchange Ambassador team to help shape and deliver the summer festival for the Den.
We have made some great connections and are continuing to work with the Manchester Jewish Museum, the Irish World Heritage Centre, Abraham Moss School & Library, The Welcome Centre, Cheetham Hill Festival Committee, and the Ukrainian Cultural Centre.
