Representing and celebrating the lives of all older people

The Dream Project is a new way of connecting with older people to make visible the lives of people who are often under-represented in our Theatres.

Dream Project 2022 invited older African or African Caribbean Diaspora people to share their stories. Together they created the show DOMINOES & DALIA’S (+OWARE!) with theatre director Cheryl Martin and musician Clive Hunte.

In its second year, Dream Project 2023 (delivered in partnership with the Wai Yin Society) we brought together a company of older East Asian and British East Asian people. Working with actor and theatre-maker Nadia Anim they created FOUR SEASONS which played for two performances in our Studio.

Now in its third year, the Dream Project 2024 will bring together a company of older South Asian and British South Asian people from Rochdale. They will work with lead facilitator Perveen Hussain to create a performance that will be performed in Rochdale as part of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s Community Festival this summer.

Participants from the Dream Project 2022 and 2023 joined our Elders Company and are now continuing their creative journeys with us.
