'We're the kind of place where people's stories don't normally get shared because we're just 'ordinary folk' from Tameside, just out 'little' borough over there.’ #Performance
A group of characters share snapshots of their lives, Lee is looking for acceptance and Kay reflects on a lifetime of experience. As stories are told and histories revealed, this eclectic group of Tameside people grapple with their sense of community, place, the future and whether there really is any such thing as ordinary.
Based on real interviews with individuals and community groups in Tameside, and developed with the 2019 Royal Exchange Tameside Ambassadors, this original play written in 2021 by Rachel McMurray is an imagined story of life in Tameside.
No Such Thing as Ordinary was first performed at Guide Bridge Theatre in 2021 and then again in 2022 at the Royal Exchange Theatre. And now it is coming back to Tameside featuring some of the original cast as well as new community performers.
