Our first ever schools and college day was a huge success. We hosted 12 different schools and colleges from around Greater Manchester, as we host a full day of activities within the theatre all around Great Expectations

In the morning we welcomed 300 young people through our doors into our main theatre space to do a workshop with some of the cast and creatives. Gitika Buttoo from our co producers Tamasha, Tom Stocks our Schools Coordinator and Amara Heyland-Morrin the Assistant Director all led a workshop around the themes of the show. All the cast then came in to play a game and meet all the young people in attendance.

Next the students broke away into different spaces to learn about all the wonderful careers in the arts available to them. This ranged from wigs, make up, lighting, sound and directing, writing and more through workshops and demonstrations from Royal Exchange Staff and the production creatives.

In the Great Hall there was a live resource pack of the show, with costumes on display, production & rehearsal shots, exclusive interviews and more.

Then we will all came back together to watch the show, followed by an exclusive Q&A with the cast and creatives.

Here is some wonderful feedback below

“I just wanted to say a massive thank you. We brought students with us, who had never been to a theatre before and many who had only ever seen a panto. Of the 40 students we brought, not one of them had been to The Royal Exchange, so it was incredibly exciting for all of them. They were absolutely buzzing with it all!!” Teacher, Great Expectations School Day”

“A really heartfelt thank you for today. I thought it was an excellent opportunity for the students who really enjoyed it too. I can imagine how much hard work went into it all and it went so smoothly – much appreciation from the staff and pupils at Abraham Moss! The play was fantastic from start to finish and I am so glad we were able to be a part of it! ” Teacher, Great Expectations School Day

“I have never been to the theatre before and didn’t know this place even existed, I have already text my mum to come back for a coffee and to see Romeo & Juliet” Student, Great Expectations School Day
