3 schools, 3 original songs, 3 pieces of devised theatre all performed on our main stage!
This beautiful project started in December 2023 where we went into schools consulting what kind of themes they wanted to tackle as part of this project. Those schools are Loreto College, Samuel Laycock and Redwood School.
From that we set all 3 schools the theme of Sanctuary and it had to be an original piece of theatre lasting 5-10 minutes and had to incorporate an element of music. So over 6 weeks we delivered 3 workshops in each school, a devising workshop, music workshop and feedback session.
The first workshop was led by Nickie Miles-Wildin our Resident Associate Director all about devising and narrowing in on what they want their pieces to be about. The second workshop was with singer songwriter Liam Frost who composed and helped the students in each school write lyrics to their own original song all about home and sanctuary. Finally Tom Stocks our schools coordinator went in to give feedback in each school before their final performance.
We then invited all 3 schools to the theatre to perform on our main stage and showcase the incredible pieces they devised in front of their family and friends. We had Journey To Happiness, What Is Home and Happy Place. By the end of the show there wasn’t a dry eye left in the room and a rapturous applause.
