You don’t remember how you got here. Put one foot in front of the other. The world around you is new and strange, looming massive overhead, then vanishing to a tiny point in the far distance. You feel small. You feel hungry. You don’t remember why you need to keep going. Keep going.

KEEP GOING THEN VANISH is a walk around a compulsively changing city, a desperately important mission, a set of instructions for breathing and noticing, an invitation to an unfamiliar Manchester, and a story about remembering and forgetting.

An audio play that takes you on a journey...

…relive extraordinary events
…uncover information
…discover something new

KEEP GOING THEN VANISH is part of the WALK THIS PLAY - a new series of location-based audio plays by ThickSkin, designed for listeners as they walk. The plays are immersive and immediate, transporting you inside the story. Each is unique to its location and invites you to experience a familiar route from a new perspective. Through narration and original music blended with the sights and sounds around you, KEEP GOING THEN VANISH takes you on a journey of imagination and discovery.

(Remember, you will need a smart phone to download the app and a pair of headphones in order to take part in WALK THIS PLAY.)

ThickSkin is an award-winning touring theatre company based in Manchester, working across live and digital platforms. We create bold and ambitious theatre; reaching and inspiring young, new and representative audiences across the world through our distinctive physicality and cinematic style. We nurture talent across all areas of theatre-making, providing a springboard for artists who are ready to take a leap.

Our work draws on many styles to create visceral and multi-layered performances that tell stories in new and inspiring ways. From mid-scale stage productions, to 360° virtual reality experiences, to immersive audio plays, we create work that is rooted in contemporary culture. We believe digital arts can enhance theatrical experiences for audiences, whether as a standalone event or to accompany live work.

The company was established in 2010 by co-Directors, Neil Bettles and Laura Mallows. The duo have led ThickSkin through the last decade, always striving to create space for under-represented voices to be heard and celebrated in theatre. During the pandemic ThickSkin reached over 15,000 people through digital engagement and more than 900 young people globally through digital learning resource.
